The capital of Romania is one of the largest cities in Eastern Europe and serves as a major transportation hub and center of business and industry in Romania. It has been nicknamed the "Paris of the East" due to its earlier architectural touches, although many buildings were damaged and destroyed over time. Stray dogs are an ongoing problem in Bucharest, which has one the highest populations of them (numbering an estimated 200000-300000) and they frequently cause serious injuries and may form packs at night; staying on main roads in daylight is good advice for any visitor. My stop was extremely short en route to Istanbul, so this is a very incomplete picture of the city, but we visit the world's second largest building, the Palace of the Parliament built by the Communist dictotor Nicolae Ceausescu -- a fine example of the extremes of human greed.
